In view of the flood disasters across the country, including Balochistan, Sindh, South Punjab, KP, there is an urgent need to establish 5,000 camps schools and emergency schools for the education of flood-affected children.
About 19,566 government schools have been partially or completely destroyed by the floods; 780 schools in Punjab, 15403 schools in Sindh, 2859 schools in Balochistan, while 524 schools in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have been severely affected. More than 6500 schools are being used as temporary shelters for flood victims.
A large number of private schools, community and madrassa schools have also been affected by the floods and a total of 50 thousand schools have been affected. Already, 10,000 schools have been destroyed in the 2010 floods and are still affected.
Floods now threaten to disrupt education for years, especially in areas where a third of girls and boys are already out of school. Already 2.5 crore children are out of schools and have not received education.
12.8 million Pakistani children are made to work in homes, factories and on roads.
USWS campaign to provide relief supplies for the rehabilitation of the affected people in Balochistan, Sindh, and South Punjab is going on. Due to insufficient food and treatment, disease and high mortality are occurring. In flood affected areas, hospitals, schools have been affected and electricity and communication systems have been disrupted.
Education, health, water, sanitation and hygiene, child protection, gender sectors and coordinated efforts are needed.
