About Us

We Help People In Need Around The World

A world of hope, tolerance and social justice, where poverty has been overcome and all people live in dignity and security.

Mr. Stephen Rafiq, Executive Director

Established since 2003, United Social Welfare Society (USWS) is a humanitarian organization registered [DO/SW/BM/RYK] under Volunteer Social Services (Registration and Control) Ordinance of 1961 Societies with the Government of Punjab. USWS is a non-profit and non-governmental organization, mandatory to work for a just and humane society by empowering local communities which it speaks for. USWS is engaged in the enhancement and protection of human rights. It builds on the universal principles of human rights set-forth in the UDHR (The Universal Declaration of Human Rights). Women, children, and marginalized communities are at the very heart of USWS’ socio-organizational endeavors and development programs. In order to intervene into the existing human rights situation in Pakistan, USWS enhances and protects the peoples’ equal right to social, economic and human development without any discrimination to race, culture, sex, religion etc.

Vision
Empowering local communities for a just and humane society.

Mission
To create a just and human society through awareness raising, advocacy, networking and lobbying for, and acceptance of the human rights principles at institutional and societal levels.

Our Values and Beliefs
- Recognition of the inherent dignity and of the equal and inalienable rights of all members of the human family is the foundation of freedom, justice and peace in the society;
- All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one another in a spirit of brotherhood;
- Everyone has the right to recognition everywhere as a person before the law.

Our Approach; Creating a Just and Humane Society (HOW)
USWS adapts a bottom-up approach. It believes that a strong political will and acceptance (by the people) of the human rights framework are the major contribution factors towards creating a just and humane society.

- Participation -Participatory community development; advocacy; networking; and lobbying for the agenda of human rights;
- Reflection -monitoring and evaluation to measure the impact of community development programs;
- Action(s) -working ‘with’ the communities, rather ‘for’ the communities and taking demand driven community-based development actions.
